Welcome! In 1978 after
the birth of my first child, I wrote my grandmother (Willie
Samantha Rodgers Gipson) asking for information about our family.
Up to that point, I’d only heard stories from my parents and
grandparents. All I really knew was
we were long time residents of Louisiana. I
wanted and needed to know more. It
was and still is very important to know my people and be proud of my heritage. To get started,
I created a questionnaire from my mom's bible.
A large tabletop bible; where she had written information.
I sent the questionnaire to my grandmother who took time to complete it.
She even did most of the legwork;
between canning and quilting she would visit older relatives, check church
records and go to the cemetery to get dates.
Grandmother returned the questionnaire accompanied by a beautiful letter
showing her appreciation for what I had started. During my
search I met extended family members who helped me uncover only part of my
history, to
them I say "Thank You", but the search continues. This site is will
always be dedicated to the memory of my parents and grandparents who are no
longer with us today. They
were the driving force that kept the family history alive and it is for them
that I continue to search. Please be sure
to sign the guestbook
before you leave. Thanks for
surfing by.
