KNP Mailbag

Welcome to the KNP Mailbag section. E-mail questions or comments to me. It would be a great help. (By the way, don't send gameplay questions. Those questions can be sent to the Gameplay Q&A section.) This section will be updated every Monday. Enjoy.

Mailbag #7: 6/28/99

Dear KNP--

Do you think the N2000 will come out with any Mario games like Super Mario World 3 or something?

b.mcinturff@worldnet.att.net

Although there is no confirmation as to whether a Mario game will be released with the system or not, there is a high chance that there will be a Mario game released with the system. That game will probably turn out to be Super Mario 64 II, which Mr. Miyamoto (the creator of Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong) has already hinted at to be for a system other than the N64.

Through history you can see that every system, except Game Boy, had a Mario game at its first release: Super Mario Bros. (NES), Super Mario World (SNES), Mario's Tennis (VB), and Super Mario 64 (N64). I don't think Nintendo will deviate from this trend.

Dear KNP--

Could you some how get me or find me a Virtual Boy I can buy?

JMDeStazio@aol.com

I can't personally give you one, but I think video game stores (such as ToysRUs, Wal-Mart, etc.) still sell Virtual Boy systems. Mario's Tennis comes with the system, so when you buy Virtual Boy you'll have at least one game. But remember that the chance that you'll find the VB system or any VB games is very low. On the other hand, both the system and the games, if you can actually find them, will be extremely cheap.

Dear KNP--

Will Metroid 2: Return of Samus be re-released in color? Sort of like Tetris DX and Links Awakening DX.

simlamberts@hotmail.com

So far as I know, Nintendo is making a color version of Metroid II and Kirby's Dream Land 2. But both games will probably be released at least six to twelve months from now. I don't know if there will be any additions to the two games. They may just come out to be like the color version of Wario Land II.

Dear KNP--

You said in a write-up for Top Gear Pocket (Game Boy Color) that it would use the "rumble cart". What is that??

natelamberts@bmts.com

The "rumble cart" (that's the term that I use for it, it's not the official name) is just a Game Boy Color cartridge with something like the N64 rumble pak built inside. So, when you play Top Gear Pocket, the whole Game Boy Color unit will shake, just like an N64 controller shakes with a rumble pak. Top Gear Pocket and Pokémon Pinball are currently the only two GB Color games announced to use the "rumble cart", although there may be more in the future.

Dear KNP--

Will there ever be any bowling, volleyball, or boxing games for the Nintendo 64?

JPH

Good question. There is going to be a bowling game. It's called Milo's Astro Lanes and it will be released November 11th. This game, however, will not be true bowling. It's more of a comic/sci-fi bowling game. As for volleyball and boxing: I don't know. Right now, there is no mention of anything. However, these are two sports that have not been made into games for the Nintendo 64, yet. I think that, eventually, at least one N64 game will fill the genre gap.

Dear KNP--

Is there any truth to the rumor that Link is modeled after Mr. Miyamoto's childhood fantasy of his twin brother who disappeared during a hurricane when he was two-years old?

"The Truth Seeker"

Once again the "Truth Seeker" strikes again! What do you think, folks? Is the rumor true?

Mailbag #2: 6/15/98

Dear KNP--

When is Nintendo going to make games for the PC?

JPH

As far as I know, Nintendo will not be making any PC or Mac games. By the way, I don't think Rare will be either. The closest thing to a PC game that Nintendo will make is a 64DD game that can be played with a modem (in other words, play it over the internet). But that idea is still far away, given that the 64DD isn't even released yet.

Dear KNP--

You have a good site so far! I'm a Koopa Troopa fan. If you've seen the Nintendo Power Volume 109, you've seen a picture of Mario with a Koopa Troopa friend in Super Mario RPG 2. I'm glad! Anyway, do you know of a good site with SMRPG2 pics?

Ian

I believe IGN64.COM has a bunch of pictures from Super Mario RPG 2. Go check them out.

Dear KNP--

What is the next Tetris-type game coming out for the Nintendo 64?

JPH

The next Tetris-based game? Well, in Japan it's Bio Tetris, which will be released in the summer. In North America it is Tetris Featuring Mickey Mouse (by Capcom), which will be released in the fall. Also, look for Tetris 64 (by Nintendo and Blue Planet Software), which will be released in 1999.

Dear KNP--

Is there any truth to the rumor that Mr. Miyamoto was kidnapped as a child, and the adventures of Mario are an expression of the suppressed memories from his childhood?

"The Truth Seeker"

No truth that I can see. (This question is a joke. Right?)

NOTE: Any game title in blue is a Japanese-only game. Any game title in cyan is a North American game.
