1984NLCS

The Cubs took the first two games of the 1984 NLCS at Wrigley. The Cubs had 5 homers in game one shutting out the Padres 13-0. The Cubs won the second game 4-1. It appeared that the "lovable losers" were going to have their first pennant in 39 years. Just needing one more win, the Cubs went to San Diego with high hopes. They dropped game one 7-1. Ok, so they just need to get one more win, no big deal. They are up 2 games to 1. Which brings us to game 4. Going to the 8th inning, it's tied up 5-5. But in the bottom of the ninth, with one man on, Steve Garvey blasted out a 2-run homer off of Warren Brusstar to send it into a game 5. All they needed was one more! In game 5, the Cubs were off to a 3-0 lead through 5 innings. But in the 6th, Rick Sutcliffe gave up 2 runs. In the 7th, Leon Durham let one slip through his legs to let the tying run in. Then Tony Gwynn's double gave the Padres the lead. Steve Garvey's rbi single stuck the knife into the Cubs hearts crushing their world series dreams. hahahahahaha! Thanks, Steve!
