So, the word for today, taken from a song I like -- called "Skilin eftir" -- is "Skilin". When I type in the words "skilin eftir" into Google, a variety of Icelandic sites come up using this phrase. On one site there is the sentence: "Ung börn eru skilin eftir..." and later "Eldri börn eru skilin eftir langtímum..." I am only making a guess, but the first one could mean: "The young born are (skilin eftir)..." and the second one could mean: "The older born are (skilin eftir) for a long time..." But I know nothing about Icelandic and can't even find a dictionary, so I am not sure! One thing is sure though, and that is I would love to live in Iceland, and speaking the language would help in finding a job.

Some other phrases I have found using either "skilin" or "eftir":

"Mannst eftir mir" --- "Do you remember me?"
"Eftir vir sem best veit" --- "As far as I know"

Aha! I have it! "Eftir" must mean "remember"! In the first example, "Mannst eftir mir?", the direct English translation would be: "You (mannst) remember me?" So "Skilim eftir" is "Remember Skilim". Now I have to translate "Skilim", and I will be able to appreciate the "Skilim Eftir" song much more!

NOTE: A little later on I got a free trial of an online Icelandic dictionary, and found out this phrase "Skilim eftir" means "leave behind, miss, leave". As in this expression: "þú skildir eftir blett": you missed a spot. So that's that!
