West Side of Main Street - Dallas Block
What is now the Healing Center was for many years the drug
store of Oscar Marold. Oscar fell out of a swing when he was a small
boy and spent the rest of his life without the use of his legs. He
lived a productive life with the aid of crutches and a wheelchair, and
even drove his own hand-controlled car. At Oscar’s passing, the store
was left to his longtime employee, Ramie Strader. This accounts for
the sign on the window, “Ramies Drug Dealer”. After Ramie’s retirement,
the building was vacant for several years. The next business venture
at this location was a bar called “Packer’s Place”, operated by Rich Foss.
Rich sold out to John Callihan, who ran the bar for a time. After
the bar closed, again the building stood vacant until the Healing Center
was opened.
