YWAM Albay started in Daraga/Albay, around 530 km southeast of Manila with only one staff and a growing number of short-term volunteers. They reached out into the different provinces of Bicol in the beginning mainly by coordinating outreaches for short term mission teams. But with more and more volunteers becoming staff, church planting and mobile training could firmly be established. In 2000 God provided for YWAM Albay a 560-sqm lot with a half native house and a boat for church planting on the islands.
At present YWAM Albay consists of 4 full-time staff and a fluctuating number of short term volunteers and disciples. It has now planted 3 churches and supports churches in evangelistic, discipleship programs and church planting. As part of the Mobile Training, the staff members teach even beyond the borders of Bicol on spiritual and also practical topics (e.g. health and livelihood) and conduct youth camps in the different provinces. Networking with different churches in the entire Bicol, they host and coordinate outreaches for short term mission teams. A small agricultural pilot project is now running at the center to supply the base with food, and also for multiplication purpose.
Two of the Albay staff have burden for Nepal and Thailand. As part of reaching the 10/40 window, one staff has gone to Thailand and committed for long term outreach. Also any more young and old Bicolanos already have caught a heart for world missions. Praise be to God for that.
MINISTRIES, PURPOSE AND GOALS OF YWAM ALBAY
OUR DREAM
Bicol being reached and reaching out!
We hope to be a way for everybody into ministry!
* “Unique Center”: Offering training, encouragement, counseling and practical help - e.g. training youth/leaders, sponsoring seminars, work with neglected people/outcasts and community development.
* Mobile Ministries: We are endeavoring to reach islands and coastal areas with film ministry, evangelistic programs, mobile training and discipleship trainings.
* Church Planting: Working with local churches, endeavoring to plant three churches , of which at least one will be in a “zero area”. We also assist in community development.
* Hosting Teams: National and international visiting teams come alongside of the YWAM Albay ministries from a few days to a few months.
* Mercy Ministry: Feeding underweight/undernourished first, second and third grade elementary school children, sponsoring indigent children in basic school needs such as school supplies, school uniforms and minimal school fees and contributions. Networking with agencies involve in income generating projects to help the needy.
* Discipleship Training School: Five months training to know God and character development as one finds place in missions.
OUR MAIN FOCUS
* Church planting in “zero area” - areas where there is no church yet.
* Mobilizing and training young people for missions. One way is through Discipleship Training School (DTS).
* Strengthening the local churches and supporting them in evangelism and discipleship.
* Helping the needy.
