(PAF) Personal Ancestral File is the simplest, easiest to use, least bloated, user-friendly FamilyTree program ever developed

Classic PAF4 has a larger typeface than PAF5, which is kinder to the eyes and also does not have tabs. After getting used to the program these attributes make it faster to input family-tree data. Some prefer Paf-4 over Paf-5 for entering Family-Tree information (names, dates, sources and individual notes) but use PAF5 to build WebPages since PAF5 does a better job of word-wrap on individual notes.

 -  "Beginning genealogists should not be intimidated by lack of support for PAF 5.2.18.0.  It’s free. It still works quite well, even on Windows 10.  Even for beginners.  Especially for beginners.  It’s got a good old-fashioned help file, not some online website somewhere. You don’t have to be connected to the internet to use it.  It’s not perfect by any means, but I haven’t found a better free genealogy program. Most free ones are crippled versions of software they really want you to pay for ... etc ... etc "

 - - HELPFUL HINT for using the files listed below - -
Read *all* the text files before downloading the Zip files

Download (save) the PAF4 program by right-clicking with your computer mouse on the hyperlinks and saving to a folder on your computer desktop so you can easily find all the files or elsewhere on your computer if you have experience in downloading simple files by the old-fashioned right-click and save method. 

Always check everything you download for viruses.

PAF4 and PAF5 run on all versions of windows up to and including Windows 10.

Sadly, many people are depressed about the new snoopy, bloated family tree programs being pushed on them by the unsympathetic "elites" so I hope this upload helps those who are ready to give up FamilyTree Genealogy Research due their frustration, disappointment and unhappiness with the newer, more difficult to use replacements. (when something works don't fix it)

Consider burning the PAF programs and the text files to a CD in case this website goes down (and you cannot find another source) and you need to use your PAF on another computer or you mess up and have to start over.

Messing something up and starting over is a time honored tradition in teaching oneself how to use anything ! (smile)

PAF will work forever, it is efficient and very easy to use.  If you want a bunch of pictures and documents connected to your tree then build a simple html website using the PAF website builder tool and link to your photos and etc from your first page (index). When you add images to any family tree genealogical program it bogs it down and then you run a risk of losing your work.

Back up your tree by exporting to Gedcom and then burning to a CD or DVD and/or saving to another computer or sending to a web based email and then leave it there if you should lose your home copy.
