Important Note on Tlalnepantla!!

There has been some confusion that Tlalnepantla, the community under siege by the Mexician Government, is the village that we visited last year and climbed the mountain. THIS IS NOT TRUE!! I would like to point out that the village with the mountain is called Tepoztlan, not Tlalnepantla!!! I believe that Tlalnepantla is located in the Northeast section of Morelos, on the other side of Tepoztlan.

I would also like to let you know that it IS PERFECTLY SAFE for people in Cuernavaca!! This year’s trip is in no danger what so ever! The CCIDD staff is also perfectly safe! This is a very isolated situation, and has not affected the safety of Cuernavaca!!

If you would like more information about the situation in Tlalnepantla please visit the MSN website at www.mexicosolidarity.org.

Costco Protest in Cuernavaca!!

While I was looking for information on the Tlalnepantla crisis a few weeks back, I came across an article on the protest against Costco that we saw in the Zocolo last year. To my surprise I discovered that in the summer the police raided the square and arrested people, including two Americans.

I thought that you guys might be interested in this so I posted it here. If you go to the link below you can also find posters you can print off to help boycott Costco in your home town. For more information Click Here.

I Can't Believe it Has Been a Year Already!

I can still hear the ringing of the Cathedral bells, the taste of the fresh fruit, and I will never forget the people that we met and the life stories they told us. It is one year ago today that our group took a leap of faith and traveled down to Cuernavaca to experience something that would change us all forever. I don't think we quite realized how much our trip would end up affecting us, and how much we would grow as people through what we learnt down there. What I do know is that I would not trade the knowledge that I gained for anything in the world.

I want to remind everyone that our journey did not end when we stepped off the plane in Ottawa, that we, without realizing it, have taken on a great burden that will stick with us for the rest of eternity. When we took that trip south to Mexico we signed an invisible contract to always share with others the memories and experiences that we gained. We now have our eyes open to the truth and I pray that you will never blink, for you will quickly realize that in those few seconds you took to rest your weary muscles, a person has died from hunger.
