Household Purposes

People sometimes use water from the river for domestic purposes, such as cooking, washing, bathing. An example of such a river used for household purposes is the River Mekong in Thailand.

Industrial Purposes

Some companies and industries make use of river water to help them run businesses. Examples of such include the Kimitsu Steelworks in Japan, as well as many riverside industries along River Rhine. They both make use of river water to cool their machinery after a day's operation.
