Emily's Story

OK, well I hope I'm doing this the right way. Thank God for Lori...she's the computer genius around these parts. :o)

A Little About Me

I guess I should start from the beginning. I was born on October 14, 1975 weighing in at (drum roll please) 7 pounds, 14 ounces! I can't remember how long I was, but I was a normal sized baby. I can remember only one other time in my life when I wasn't fat, and that was when I was six or seven years old. I was very ill with the flu or pneumonia or something, and I lost quite a bit of weight during the weeks I was ill. I have a picture of my sister and me playing dress-up around that time, and whenever I see it, I can't believe I was ever that skinny!

I wasn't morbidly obese as a young child, just "chunky". It wasn't until my last year of elementary school/first year of middle school that I really started gaining weight. During the 7th grade, I was 5'6" tall and weighed 180 or 190 pounds. When my 8th grade year began, I REALLY started gaining weight. By the time I graduated high school, I was 5'9" tall and weighed 290 pounds. Now, several years later, I've continued to gain, and weigh quite a bit more than I did when I was in highschool.

I've read different reasons why people become morbidly obese, and the most I can figure in my case, it's all genetic. I was never abused as a child, I was never forced to clean my plate at supper, I was never on any kind of therapy that caused me to take steroids...I just like to eat. There is only one other person in my family who was morbidly obese, and that's my paternal great great grandfather. Actually, he was super-morbidly obese. Most of the other people in my family are anywhere from normal sized to a little pudgy, but nowhere near as big as I am.

In my story, I have several categories: My Diet History, A Change In Eating Habits, My Co-Morbidities, and Researching Weight Loss Surgery. To get to the next page in my story, click the links at the bottom of the pages.
