The beginning of Fantomu Bushi can be traced all the way back to late November of 1999. It was from there on that the founding 9 members came to know each other. Through the use of email, forums, and chat a community had been built. Time passed until late April when psycho mantis finally brought up the idea that everyone knew was going to come up at some time. A future clan was proposed. Some were excited while others were hesitant at this proposal. However, we did not rush into it. We discussed how we wanted it to run, who would be able to join, and what should be on the website. After about two weeks of discussion we had decided upon the clan philosophy that you will read below. Next up was we had to choose a name. Countless names were brought up, but it wasn't until the idea of having a Japanese name came up that we really thought we had something. After some research, we came up with several names. Fantomu Bushi was at the top of our list. It was a name that was not very complicated to say in Japanese, and its English meaning was exactly what we had in mind.

Fantomu Bushi=="Phantom Samurai"

We had always wanted a name with dark elements to it, so having phantom in the name was just what we wanted. Plus Fantomu sounds dark itself. And of course being samurai was very cool to all of us. :) So after all that, it shouldn't be surprising to know that the vote was unanimous for Fantomu Bushi. Several hours after the decision we unveiled the clan in the Star Wars Racer(dc) rankings, and the only thing left was to build the site you are on now.

Bushido=="The way of the samurai"

Community. This is something we value highly in this clan. Through the use of the Katana's Edge Forum, chat, and email we hope to create a great sense of community where members get to know the person behind that screen name. In the Katana's Edge Forum fellow members can discuss gaming issues or events in a non-flaming manner. Yes, a forum without flaming is possible. :) Members of the Katana's Edge forum are very well informed on the latest gaming news, and game buying decisions are made easier by reading impressions from someone you trust and know. Helping others is considered normal. If someone needs help in a game or wants the best strategy to finish a racing course, he/she should have no problem getting the advice. Games or meetings can be set up with ease. Most importantly though, friends can be made. It is just a lot more fun to challenge or cooperate with someone you know well, then with someone who you only know their name.

Like any online gaming clan, we seek to dominate the online battlefield. Currently we can be found playing mostly online dreamcast games with a few pc games thrown into the mix. The main games we are playing are: Phantasy Star Online ver2, Quake 3 Arena, 4x4 Evo 2(pc) and Alien Front Online. We also are still tearing up games with online rankings. We have experts in all genres of gaming, so when a new dc game with online features comes out, you can be sure that you will see someone representing Fantomu Bushi there. We have experts in first person shooters, rpg's, racing, sports, puzzles, rts games, and fighters. Several members have already made a name for themselves, and you can be sure that the others are awaiting a game in their expertise to show just how strong and well rounded clan Fantomu Bushi is.

An important value to Fantomu Bushi is acting in an appropriate and mature manner on the battlefield. "I kicked your ass you loser!", and "You suck" are phrases you should never hear from any of the members of Fantomu Bushi. :) We treat all fellow gamers with respect, and we never seek "wars" with other clans. Any competition between another clan would be just that....competition.

Unity is a common and important value in most clans, but in Fantomu Bushi we value it with the highest regard. All members are expected to think of the team before the individual. This philosophy is the main reason why there is no main leader in Fantomu Bushi. All members are considered equal. All issues or problems will be discussed by the entire clan. The only member who plays a larger role in the clan is psycho mantis. He designed and maintains this site, he is the owner of the Katana's Edge Forum, and he was chosen to be the "head" person to talk to in case a clan issue needs to be discussed in private. All questions not meant to be discussed in the forum should be emailed to him. Through the use of the Katana's Edge Forum and other forms of communication we feel that the community aspect only strengthens team unity.

Becoming a member of Fantomu Bushi is not as simple as most other clans. We do not seek to gain members just for the sake of increasing our member count. We also do not seek out potential members by advertising in message boards, in chat, etc. To put it simply, we value the members themselves, not the stats of how large we are. What we look for in a potential member is someone who:

  1. Displays the basic signs of intelligent life. Biased morons need not apply. :)
  2. Was not offended by the above statement. :) Having a sense of humor is a plus.
  3. Is an accomplished gamer. We do not care if you are the greatest player on a certain game. Sure, it does help, but we look for someone who is an accomplished gamer in all genres. We seek domination in every online game, not just the ones that are currently out.
  4. Is able to grasp the concept that different people have different opinions. This problem can be seen on just about every major gaming forum on the web....
  5. Does not have a huge ego.
  6. Shows respect on the "battlefield".
  7. Likes to post in a forum. This means that you want to be a part of this community.
  8. Does not use cheat devices to improve themselves in competition.

If you are a person who likes these values, and feel that you would make a great addition to the Fantomu Bushi team, then do try to join. So what exactly do you do to join? There is no form to fill out here. Simply say hello in the forum and join in on the fun there. Try to get to know the people there and see if you like the environment and philosophy behind our group. After a period of two weeks or more if you like what you see and would like to join, then post in the forum about wanting to officially join. Fantomu Bushi will then vote on it and you will likely become a member. It's that easy! :)

Note: Membership entry qualifications and rules are subject to change.
