About the Contents Welcome. This is a site about living with heart failure. The goal is to help people understand about the disease and to learn how to live with it. CHF is a serious condition that affects more than 5 million people. In fact, it is more common in people age 65 and older and more common in African Americans. Men have a higher rate of heart failure than women. Heart failure is the number one reason for people 65 and older to be admitted to the hospital. Treatment of CHF costs greater than 21 billion dollars a year. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Nikki Paulk RN obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1996. She has worked in Intensive Care, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Physician Office, Staff Development, and Nursing Administration. She is currently working to obtain a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration from Georgia College and State University. Ms. Paulk is currently involved in a research project related to congestive heart failure and the hospital readmission rates.
