Computer Hardware Options

Before you purchase a Computer System. there are several questions that need consideration.  Initially there is the following:

In our opinion there is no question:

"Clone" and "Intel"

"Clone" because computers have many components and we want to specify each and every one of them. This includes the size and "particularly" the manufacturer. With a name brand there is no choice. The same problem occurs with some of the packages offered by certain suppliers. The correct choice of the components gives you  quality components with the warranty from the manufacturer, as well as the computer system retailer. A 3 year warranty may not be much good from a Retailer, when the average life span of many Retailers is 2 years.

"Intel" because most of the Computer Systems in use are without a doubt Intel. Granted they are more expensive in most cases, however they are also higher quality and in our opinion, a better value. Hands down, we would strongly recommend an Intel Computer. One day you may want to upgrade, or sell in the after market and purchase another Computer. You can upgrade an Intel Clone component by component. If you decide to sell in the after market, the chance of finding a buyer is much greater, due to the  market penetration of the Intel Computer Systems.

Our Recommendation changes with Industry advancement, but for "to-day" (April 2002), we suggest the following specific computer system:

Pentium P1V "Intel" 1.8 Ghz

Motherboard "Asus"

Hard drive 40 Gig WD

CD Burner & Rom 24\10\40 internal

"Rambus" RAM 256 Meg

Voice Modem 56 K US Robotics V 90

Video Card GeForce 64 Meg

Sound Card  "Sound Blaster" Live

Monitor 17" .24 DPI Vertical

Speakers           Included

HP Keyboard       Included

HP PS/2 Mouse    Included

Mid Tower          Included

The above recommendation is based on the assumption that the purchaser wants a new computer system at a reasonable cost and one that will last for some time without upgrading etc.

The Computer System as noted above should cost the purchaser no more than $1200.00. If quotes are higher than this amount, we strongly suggest you shop further or contact us at:  jaybell2@yahoo.com

Before leaving this topic we should mention that used systems are also available and may be fine for many new users. The above new system is not state of the art to-day, but it is getting close. It may be very appropriate to reduce the cost substantially on a first computer by starting with a used P II or a P III. If necessary, these can be sold later at minimal loss, as they will depreciate a lot less than a newer system. By then the user will be more familiar with his own personal requirements. The cost for these systems complete with 17" Monitors  depending on the equipment included, should not exceed  $350.00 and $750.00 respectively.

Ok now on to Software
