The Hippycrickets Current News

November/December 1998

Our multitracker is fixed and we are looking forward to doing some demos.  The new plan is to demo during the first part of the year and get into the studio for a release in late Summer.  Our side project (The Now!) played our first gig in December.  It was fun to be out playing live again.

Rory and I are both going crazy over the new Rayon City Quartet CD.  Other than that, I've been listening to The Play Trains as usual.  Rory has been listening to some garagier stuff, e.g., The Insomniacs, Manual Scan, etc.

October 1998

The Hippycrickets had a bit of a rough month as our multitracker was broken all month.  I believe we have it fixed so we are going to get back to recording.  The big news this month was that we received royalties from a Spanish TV station for the use of "Margaret Sez".  Does anyone know anything about this?  Oddly enough, we don't!  Also, this month we updated the web site with radio station information for those stations that have been kind enough to play our music.  Lastly, our side project (The Now!) is getting very close to playing its first show.  We can't wait!

At the listening station, I've been listening to Flanders and The Pursuit of Happiness.  Rory has been listening to his Nuggets box set!

September 1998

Well, August was an interesting month.  It looks as though we have snagged another compilation CD.  Shuteye Records has agreed to release "How Can I?" from our debut CD, "Inconceivable!!!".  We're real excited about the project.  We'll let you know more details when we know them.

Also, it looks as if The Hippycrickets are not going to the Balti-Pop music festival.  Among other things, one of the clubs up there backed out.  As far as live music goes, we are hoping to get a side project out there in Atlanta by the end of the year while we continue to work on our next release.

At the listening station, I've been listening to a lot of Erik Voeks (One awesome CD and 3 unbelievable 7" singles).  Rory's been getting more into some of that great garage stuff, e.g., The Stems, The Chevelles, etc.

August 1998

A lot of good things are goin' on this month!

1. We have completed all of the drum tracks for the demos we are making in preparation to record our follow-up to Inconceivable!!!
2. We have been invited to play the Baltimore Power Pop Festival.  We have contacted a friend of ours in Chicago to play bass for us.  Hopefully, scheduling and financing will all work out and we will be able to go.  We'll keep you posted.
3. We just got a favorable review in Germany's Hartbeat magazine.  An excerpt from the review is available in our What The Critics Think Of Us page.

I've been listening to Who Hit John and Todd Newman.  Rory has been listening to The Beatles and The Beat Angels.

July 1998

We are just getting our web page up at last!  A special thanks has to go out to Casey Jongko who put a template together for us to work with.  Rory and I are now trying to get all of it organized and functional.  Some areas are still under construction so check back often.

On the recording front, we just purchased a 12 track home recording unit.  We are learning how to use it right now through trial and error.  We are hoping to complete demos for six or seven songs for a follow-up CD-EP to Inconceivable!!! to be released sometime in early 1999.

Rory is listening to the new Kaisers CD and I’ve been listening a lot to the Swinger CD from a couple of years back.  Rory and I are also eagerly awaiting the release of Rayon City Quartet’s debut CD.
