Verse 1
*******
This quest for today
to be but just free
has a price to pay
one we cannot see.
|
Verse 2
********
It is not counted
in money or station
but trials surmounted
and knows inflation.
|
Verse 3
********
For with this cost
called accountability
brings with it a host
called responsibility.
|
Verse 4
********
Now rich we all wish to be
however wealth even man's
has this same cost we see
across mountains and plains.
|
Verse 5
********
For to really be free
we have to be obedient
to laws and man's degree
even then subservient.
|
Verse 6
********
Oh freedom is a way of life
and this every veteran knows
in each day we will face strife
the temptations really pulls.
|
Verse 7
********
To thus freedom have
we must pay a price
not in little pieces or half
in full we must sacrifice.
|
Verse 8
********
Thus to enjoy freedom
we must chose but one
to call master in serfdom
either man or the Son.
|
Verse 9
********
In each we find salvation
yet both require a price
one calls it damnation
the other eternal life.
|
Verse 10
********
So to have and enjoy
this freedom we so seek
is not to play with a toy
or around corners peek.
|
Verse 11
********
We need to acknowledge
the one gave His all
for us to have this knowledge
He came for us after the Fall.
|
Verse 12
********
We call his name holy
for He is the Master of all
He paid the price fully
for us to heed the call.
|
Verse 13
********
Now stretch forth your hand
and His will be right there
not above or like shifting sand
for His law and demands are fair.
|
Verse 14
********
This is to know and enjoy freedom
which all veterans should know
to strive to return to His kingdom
and in all His laws obedience show.
|
Verse 15
********
Now the choice is always ours
for this was the Lord's plans
the price is counted in service hours
to the sick, the widows, the orphans.
|
Verse 16
********
And everyone must decide
which master this day
we will chose to side
no longer can we delay.
|
Verse 17
********
One requires all our time
the other only now and again
one has committed no crime
the other the tempter even then.
|
Verse 18
********
No one can serve two masters
and this is freedoms cost
not just looking for safe pastures
to delay just now means you've lost.
|
Verse 19
********
So go forth enjoy this holiday
for those who fought to reward
but remember also this day
goals you need to seek toward.
|
Verse 20
********
Enjoy the freedoms for fought
enjoy the right to play or serve
and remember there is ought
one master you seek to deserve.
|
Verse 21
********
Freedom is to always enjoy
but its cost was never free
effort and blood you must employ
within the Son's service to be.
