Spanish Summer Camp 2003 June 9-1 Monday- Friday Lunes - Viernes Parents: The guides will be in the arrival area waiting for the students ( guides will be provided with a list of the students, as well as name tags.) The students will be greeted in the target language. Greetings will vary as the students learn new forms. The guide will then introduce himself and welcome the students to the camp and to the theme, in this case Spain. The students will receive a nametag with a theme related to the country. An example of this would be: _Buenos días, me llamo _________, yo seré tu guía por esta semana. Bienvenido a España. ☺ 8:00- 8:30 The guide will take the students to the breakfast area, where they will use the target language to name the items in the menu. _Vamos a desayunar. Síganme. During this time the students may listen to music from the target language.
8:32 -9:00 All groups together. The students will receive a short presentation of the corresponding country; Geographical location, currency, form of government, National Anthem, traditional food, typical clothing, authentic artifacts, etc. The students will make their own flag. 9:02- 9:50 This session is to have total interaction in the target language. Every day of the week, the students will take turns posting the date and weather. During this week we will cover: Greetings, polite expressions, introductions, animals, numbers, commands, vowel sounds from the target language, colors, days of the week, weather, parts of the body, food, etc. 9:52- 11:00 In this session students will make their own crafts, from the studied Spanish speaking countries. They will make: Castañuelas, piñatas, ojito de Dios, etc. 11:02- 11:29 This session is for the students to learn traditional dances, songs, practice skits, etc. 11:30- 12:00 The guide will take the students to the lunchroom and follow the same procedure they did during breakfast. The target language will be used as much as possible so the children will become fluent. 12:00 The ½ day student’s parents will pick up their children and the guides will say farewell in Spanish. 12:00- 12:10 Break 12:10- 1:00 This session is for the children to research the studied country through the Internet and to get further practice of the vocabulary by using appropriate software. 1:00- 1:30 Movie time! In this session the students will watch a portion of a Spanish movie. 1:30- 2:00 Flex This time will be used to practice a skit, dance, song, etc. 2:00 Dismissal We will follow the same routine everyday except on Friday, when we will have a program overview of the week. Specific time and place is TBA.
