Biography
A little more about the man himself

Originally from Belfast now living in Donegal, he has been writing songs for 18 years playing in several bands in Belfast including Admiral Spears and Stone River.

Over the last few years he has performed at the Belfast folk festival with Guy Clark and Niabhe(neeve!) Parsons, at the Harper Adams festival with indie band Republica, and has had support slots with trad rock band Kila and Delores' younger brother Sean Keane.

"Based in Convoy having settled there three years ago Gilpin has been writing songs since he was eleven. His talent was honed by a musical family in Belfast; a brother and sister who taught him to play the guitar and his mother, a music teacher, and ccomplished pianist. Later guitar lessons are attributed to Victor Mc cCullough, Ian Smith and Ted Ponsonby"

From the Belfast folk festival to the Jerusalem folk club, he has played
throughout Europe, he has had various TV and radio appearances in Holland, France, Sweden, Israel and back at home in Ireland on both BBC and RTE networks.

Previous releases include the Greengrass CD 'Far far away', the solo, self titled cassette album of 10 tracks and, his song 'You bring me love' which features on 'Some Nerve' a compilation album of 5 tracks. This recording
was subsequently chosen as the title track of the RTE commissioned film 'Quando'.

Beautiful Mistake features 12 tracks from this modern day bard and features the electric guitar of ex wings band member Henry McCullough, Dublin keyboardist James Delaney, Donegal guitarist and dobro player Ted Ponsonby, Tyrone fiddle player Cathal Hayden and Portaferry folk singer Rosemary Woods. The album also features a 'hidden' track produced by guitarist Steve Cooney.

"In the distance can you hear, hear the trumpets sound?
Sound a battlecry, cry out loud
'Love casts out all fear', fear it wears a shroud,
Gotta trade in your old clothes, anticipate the wedding gown"
You coaxe a devil out of me -
In memory of the late Rev. Sydney Callaghan O.B.E.
