THE DARKEST DAY OF HORROR THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN

FACTS & FIGURES

* The original budget was close to $7 million but after Romero refused to alter his original script to achieve an R-rating, the budget was slashed to $3.5 million.

* The crew used real pig intestines for the scene where Rhodes is torn in half. However, someone left the intestines out of the freezer over the weekend so when it came to filming, the stench was unbearable. The zombies stuffed wax up their noses but Joe Pilato had to suffer the full effect!

* Several years after Day, Joe Pilato met a then-unknown Quentin Tarantino who had written 'From Dusk Till Dawn' specifically for him. When Tarantino eventually got funding for the project though, he did not even audition Pilatio for the lead role.

* Every zombie extra received some very special gifts - a signed one dollar bill, a cap saying 'I was a Zombie in Day of the Dead' and a signed copy of the newspaper with 'The Dead Walk' as the title.

* Joe Pilato (Rhodes) is the only person in the dead trilogy to have appeared in more than one film (with the exception of Romero). He also appeared as an officer at the dock scene in Dawn of the Dead.

* This was the only dead film not to have been shot entirely in Pittsburgh as the opening sequence was shot in Florida.
