Freud's Personality Theory
The Id
Dr. Sigmond Freud explored the unconsciousness by means of free association - a method which involves allowing the subject to talk about whatever comes into their conscious mind... even though it sounds sort of silly. Through the analysis of free associations, early childhood memories and dreams, Dr. Freud tried to figure out the basic principles of personality.
Dr. Freud considered human personality to be composed of three parts: the id, the ego, and the superego.
