Mortuary Unit
Mortuary Unit of Forensic Medicine department was handed over to the department on November 26th 1996 for the objective of improvements in the quality of autopsy work & to make it more transparent and based on honesty.
By the grace of ALLAH today it is a general belief that autopsy work done here is based upon skilled training. Doctors are well trained & honesty & justice is observed.
Credit of this improvement in Autopsy work goes to Dr. Ahmad Saeed & his team of doctors & paramedical staff who through their endless efforts bore all pressures & laid foundations of work done on merit.
Building
Mortuary unit is situated in Allied Hospital complex but
unit is independent with separate entrance. It consists of offices for Doctors
& paramedics, freezer room equipped with freezers where 4 dead bodies can be
preserved at a time, autopsy theatre & store rooms. A separate unit is
constructed to preserve putrified bodies. In autopsy theatre there is proper
arrangement for the undergraduate class to observe autopsy examination.
Autopsy theatre is equipped with proper exhaust system of ventilation, white tiles lining of walls & sufficient lighting arrangement.
Jurisdiction
Doctors posted in Forensic department are empowered to do
autopsy examinations on the dead bodies of 16 police stations of Faisalabad
city.
On average bases, about 450-500 autopsy examinations are conducted every year. For female autopsies, 4 lady doctors are posted who conduct female auopsies according to the ruling of Supreme court of Pakistan. (Lady Doctors)
Presently, Dr. Arshad Masood is the Incharge of the Mortuary unit. He is very experienced and has conducted more than 600 autopsies during his stay in mortuary. He is helped by Dr. Javed Iqbal, Dr. Mohammad Naeem & Dr. Altaf Pervaiz Qasim.
Paramedical Staff
The honesty & efficiency of Paramedical staff is
without any doubt & they work round the clock and are specially trained to
handle emergency situations. Rana Basharat is presently Incharge of the
paramedics & is considered extremely useful in his place.
