Combat Mission: Combat Mission is a 3/4 perspective, turn-based wargame, with a high attention to historical detail. Regiment, companies, and even indiviual squads of soldiers are represented on the battlefield, for both the Axis and Allied powers. Combat Mission lets you play in the Western European Theater of Operations, and Combat Mission 2: Barbarossa to Berlin, allows you to play the war between Germany and the Soviet Union. A third game is in development, Combat Mission: Afrika Korps, which will detail the desert battles of Africa, and the Allied invasion of Sicily and Italy, as well as the Axis invasion of Crete. A modern day classic series. Buy one, or buy them all, they will not disappoint.

Hearts of Iron: No other game to date gives a player so much control of an individual country during WW2. Play as any country in the entire world, during 1936-1946, and lead your country to victory as part of the Axis, Allied, or Comintern powers. Control what heads of state run your country, what weapons and equipment you research, how many infantry division you field each year, what aircraft you build, as well as how many submarines or aircraft carriers you wish to build. Anything, and everything, is possible with this amazing game. A WW2 wargamer's dream, and an instant classic.

Close Combat: This link will take you to God's Close Combat Links, the ultimate reference site for this gaming series. The Close Combat series of games are old now, but in their day they were amazingly fun. Played from a top down perspective, the game recreated various campaigns of WW2, and each game usually had a different theme, or theater of operations that it recreated. With a strong emphasis on the infantry squad, it recreated the chaos and mayhew that the individual soldier, and squad, would undergo in the harsh battles of WW2. These games are classics, and may be hard to find, but they are worth the effort.

Panzer General: The Panzer General series of wargames are a true classic. These games were hex based strategy games, that were a ingenious mix of realism, and playability. Any grognard or novice could have fun with these games, and most did just that. Sadly, this series has died out, but you might be able to find a copy at some of the larger online PC game retail sites. Panzer General II is my favorite in the series.
