Solar Plexus Chakra
The Third Chakra

The Manipura Chakra, which means the diamond, is the energy center of personal feelings, power and sensitivity. When in balance, this energy center creates a person who is outgoing, cheerful, open and expressive, intelligent, self confident, flexible, and has a keen sense of respect for themselves and others. This person is also very decisive and has strong nerves. This person may also show qualities of being out going, cheerful, spontaneous, relaxed. This chakra can give clarity of thought and an increased awareness. It stimulates interest and curiosity.

The Solar Plexus Chakra often deals with raw emotions, like anger, frustration, and intuition or gut feelings. Being extremely sensitive, particularly to the emotions of others any blockages here can easily create uncontrolled emotions, tenseness, hostility, rage and severe stomach problems. Located between the sternum bone and the belly, it governs the will, the mind, emotions, stomach, and upper digestive tract, assimilation of nutrients, psychic experiences, rational left brain) thoughts, ego, vital energies, control, accomplishments, and the freedom to be yourself. Organization is important to this chakra that likes everything orderly and disciplined. It is the center of self esteem, power, directed will and it radiates expansiveness, warmth & joy. It quickly takes issue when feeling threatened and this can cause an even greater bridge to have to span when treating problems.

Most of us are taught from early childhood to repress our emotions and feelings. The rules of society say that we must always be practical and wary. It cautions us against exploitation. We live in a restricted society where people will often take advantage of one another, so this problem is difficult to overcome.

By repressing the third chakra, you place yourself on auto-pilot and this can cause severe emotional problems among others. Doubt and mistrust will eventually destroy your vitality if this continues. They must both be endured and finally overcome.

To aid this center, you must relax your emotions. This centre must be made more available. You must be more sensitive, laugh more, cry more, touch and feel more.

An overabundance of this color is said to result in conceit and loudness. One with an imbalance and overactive chakra here may be judgemental, a workaholic, a perfectionist, demanding, sometimes emotional in the extreme, and tends to complain a lot about relationships. This person needs help to relax. They are very rigid. Besides being judgemental and critical, they may also do some mental bullying. They are always planning but never doing. They are stubborn and need to change. This can be treated with violet or purple followed by a brief period of yellow.

A person with an underactive third chakra is always depressed, lacking in confidence, worrying about what others think, afraid to be alone, and confused. These people often carry around hurt feelings and feel confused. Their digestion is poor and they have an inane fear of failure, along with poor judgement, apathy, feelings of being deprived of recognition, aloofness, and feelings of isolation. They are often afraid to learn new things and have many psychosomatic problems. This is best treated with yellow. The image in nature to focus on is sunlight, a ripe wheat field, or sunflowers.
