The grandaddy of all Detroit Schools is Cass Technical High School on Grand River. It is (of course) slated for demolition to make way for, (of course) a parking lot. You can see downtown Detroit in the background.

Is this the back or the side??
Cass Tech will soon be levelled to make way for the parking lot that will service the new school. WHAT A WASTE!

Where will our kids go to school during the destruction, er, construction?

Cass Tech; another historic landmark bites the dust.
What the hell, is this side??
Located on Martin Luther King near Cass is Clay School, which dates back to 1888. The building in the back is the Harbor Light Center.

The Nellie Leland School for Crippled Children on 1395 Antietam St. dates back to 1918. The school attracted wide attention because of its unusual design features including ramps from the main to the third floor. The school operated until 1981. The property was purchased in the mid 1980s by Stroh Properties, Inc. Developer Joel Landy, who will be renovating the building for use as lofts. A bronze tablet once hung on the outside wall of the Leland School. Placed there in 1925 by the Daughters of the G.A.R., it marked the site as the former location of Detroit Barracks from 1830 to 1866. Lieutenant U.S. Grant commanded from 1849 to 1851, and the post served as a military recruiting station during the Civil War.

Right down the street from the Packard Plant on Grand Blvd is RETS Electronics School. My dad studied here in the late 40's, early '50's. He went to work for RCA, then started his own TV repair business.
