This is my list of the best free website hosts. Be sure to check out a few of them, some of them offer more webspace than others and some require that you run their advertising in little pop-up windows.

Spaceports,
FreeServers
and
Homestead
Reviews are coming soon, for these promising new servers. Spaceports gives you free unlimited
storage, free e-mail, FreeServers lets you attach your own
domain name to your free website on their server (hint: park your domain names here
for free...). Homestead lets you put anything on their server
as long as it isn't illegal! Both give you 20 MBytes (I think!) |
Graffiti
This site is the only site I have ever heard of that offers full CGI access along with 20MB
of storage and a great free e-mail service. It might just be
the very best. |
Angelfire
Pop up windows can be turned off, also offers free e-mail accounts. The URL that they give
to you is pretty simple too, not humongous like at some sites.
Geocities
The most famous of all, but also one of the most commercial. They add a Geocities watermark
to the bottom of your page and pop up little ad windows for every page. Their URLs are
also verrrry long.
Tripod
HTML editor and file uploading is very easy to use. Also gives you a nice page showing statistics on page views and visitors - a counter on steroids.
Fortune City
Setup to look a little bit like Geocities, but you get 20MB for free!
Also offers free e-mail accounts...
Free Yellow
I haven't tried this one, but it is very popular
Zoom
This site offers lots of services that you can add to your sites. Free java chats, etc. But to get them you have to sign up for their mailing list, and they really use it!
Digiweb
A relatively new service offering lots of free programs - java chat, discussion, etc. worth a try! |
The Globe
I haven't tried this one either, but they went public at the end of 1998. I wonder how long it will really be "free" ??
Hypermart
Offers lots of cgi scripts such as WWWBoard, Mailing List, Banner Exchange, TopSites, Chat and
many others. But you can't install your own CGIs... |
