Fungi causing superficial (cutaneous) mycoses
- Organisms responsible for cutaneous mycoses are called dermatophytes
- Infections are limited to outer layers of skin, hair, and nails
- Pityriasis versicolor forms brown or pale patches
- Tinea cruris, T. corporis form pink, spreading plaques with scaling in the border and healing in the center; fragile hairs
- Tinea unguium (Onychomycosis): White streaks, thickening of the nail plate; fragmentation of the nail
