Beer Review: Fest Bier (Victory)

That Victory brewed the winner of the Cap City Oktoberfest beer competition came as no surprise to me, having tried their Hop Devil Ale at the Old Dominion Beer Fest this summer. A medium color and a medium-to-lighter body hid a slight sweetness to the taste of this brew. No bite or aftertaste was present in this very solid, very good beer. -- Brewmeister G

My first fest beer of the day was the winner of last year's Oktoberfest judging - hey, I had to re-try this one, right? Poured by none other than Victory's Brewmaster and President, Bill Covaleski, this brew had a medium color and body and greeted me with a nice, smooth taste. There was almost a slight hint of (mild) spices on the end. Not very sweet, there were no hops notes that I could detect, nor was there any 'bite'. Again, a very solid, very good fest! Yum! This great fest beer took 3rd place in this year's competition. -- Brewmeister G
