Seamless Separation

Flying
Lost up in the clouds
I'm reminded of the story of
Two ponies lost in the clouds
Who find their way home
I'm on my way home
But I've left a piece of me
Behind

Below
The Potomac River stretches
In some way connected
To the Tennessee I saw this morning
The houses are separate but indistinct
The restored Pentagon stands
As if nothing ever happened in the
Past

Seamless
For a moment slipping through
The clouds and wing are one
Safely confined I am free
Lost in these clouds
Heading home with half a heart
Leaving my family in Alabama
Separated
