During the application process the Admissions Committee take into account the applicants personal and academic qualifications.  The Committee will accept those who are most likely to make significant contributions to society.  The following attributes are considered for acceptance:


  • Academic record,

  • Performance on the MCAT,

  • Depth of motivation for an commitment to medicine, and

  • Evidence of a variety of personal characteristics necessary for success as a physician

All prospective students must have completed at least three years (90 semester hours) or undergraduate coursework at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university.  The following courses must be included in the 90-semester hours requirement:


  • One Year of Inorganic Chemistry (with lab)

  • One Year of Organic Chemistry (with lab)

  • One Year of Biology (with lab)

  • One Year of Physics (with lab)

The MCAT is required for acceptance into the University of Virginia School of Medicine.  The MCAT scores must not be older than three years.
