The Committee for Admissions at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine seeks students who have shown academic excellence and leadership qualities.  There are no minimum GPA or MCAT requirements although intense competition eliminates those who have low GPA's and/or MCAT scores.


Vanderbilt University School of Medicine seeks students who have a strong educational background in both the sciences and liberal arts, and who will have obtained the baccalaureate degree before matriculation.


Applicants must complete the following courses before acceptance:


  • Eight Semester Hours of Inorganic Chemistry (with lab)

  • Eight Semester Hours of Organic Chemistry (with lab)

  • Eight Semester Hours of Biology, zoology, or molecular biology

  • Eight Semester Hours of Physics (lab recommended)

  • Six Semester Hours of English and Composition

Advanced placement credits cannot be accepted for the Science or English credits.
