Comedic History: He started in stand-up comedy (in 1989) by attending an open microphone night. Not long after he attended Cortland State University
in New York (played football), he started to go to clubs with his brother
(stand-up comic Gary Valentine). James kept trying to
succeed and was inspired in part by comedic idols such
as Robert Klein and Jerry Seinfeld (also from New York).
After he performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,"
Kevin caught his big break at the 1996 Montreal Comedy
Festival. He was then cast in a recurring role on
the CBS comedy series "Everybody Loves Raymond,"
with his friend Ray Romano. He then signed
a development deal with NBC to create his own show.
NBC didn't order the pilot, but CBS knew James
from his work on Raymond and was quickly picked up.
The King of Queens is now in its second season (Mondays 8pm). His other credits include "Star Search" and "Friday Night."

Tidbits: Kevin was on the Conan O'Brien show on Thursday, May 4th. He told him that the network wants him to lose weight. He just wants to lose enough weight so that his stomach doesn;t jiggle when he brushes his teeth. Haha. He also said that it is just "water weight." After he pees, he is ripped! :-) The "King of Queens" was also a question on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Pretty impressive!
