Game Review
Hesperia Christian played an improving Agape third place Bethel Christian and came away with a 88-47 victory. The Patriots, well aware of the Eagles improved team, came out strong and won the game with a very strong 26-6 first quarter. Josh Hamilton led the way with a 28 point performance. Trevor Wagstaffe and Mike Petersen supported that effort with 12 points a piece. Petersen also had 9 rebounds. Matt Boesch had a career night with six points and was 1 for 1 from the three point line. Sean Bayer got 6 points also along with 8 rebounds. Unfortunately, there was a major downside to the game and that was the knee injury to Patriot big man Lorne Barton. Barton will be listed as doubtful for Friday night's game against Joshua Springs.

The game still showed issues that must be resolved before Big Game Week, next week. Free throw shooting continues to plaque HCS. Last night they were 54% from the charity line. It begs opponents to use a Jim Valvano-type offense to beat the Patriots. They have to improve that to at least 70% for playoffs. Eagle Tim Zierman's moves last night also showed another Achilles Heel for HCS that coaches must fix. It is the same move that St Anthony's of Long Beach uses exclusively. It will require a minor fix by the HCS coaching staff prior to Tuesday's game. Bethel Christian remains tied with Joshua Springs for third place in the Agape at 2-5. HCS remains alone in second place at 5-2 and plays their last regular season road trip Friday against the always dangerous at home Lightning of Joshua Springs.

Game Preview Hesperia Christian continues their quest to get a piece of the Agape League championship when they play host to Bethel Christian of Lancaster. Bethel Christian has moved into third place in the Agape League. They are 3-1 in the last week and two game league winning streak having beaten Victor Valley Christian and Joshua Springs last week. So Hesperia Christian cannot overlook this team by looking toward Big Game Week next week. Again this is a game to begin working out whatever bugs still exist in the HCS system like free throw shooting, rebounding and defense. The Eagles' big shooters to watch are Josh Thies and John Ustares, although Mark Hicks was their big scorer in the last game with Bethel. Bethel Christian is now 2-4 in league and 7-10 overall. HCS is 4-2 and in second place in the Agape League.
