Anime Convention Reports

Here are my personal reports and photo albums on various anime conventions I have attended. Enjoy!

From Korea to California to Texas to Missouri to Illinois... and all well worth it!

Anime Central 2003 (Chicago, IL)

A freak accident (which flipped me over in mid-air many times and totally wrecked my car) prevented me from going in '02. But this year I wouldn't be denied, even though I had to tackle a Korea-CA-TX-MO-IL expedition just to get here! No report this time, since all the travel toasted my brain!

A special guest photo album courtesy of my old college roommate Jesse!

Anime Expo 2003 (Anaheim, CA)

Since I couldn't make it this year, I forced a lazy no-good friend of mine into taking pictures for you!

BONUS COMIC-CON GALLERY
We wish we had more photos to show you!

Anime Central 2004 (Chicago, IL)

Sadly, we lost two whole rolls of film on this trip, so this gallery will be woefully smaller than expected. If you have any pictures of my group, please share them with us!

I am finally back at the big show!

OVER 300 PHOTOS + BONUS COMMENTARY!

SINCLAIR'S & LISA'S SCRAPBOOK
AND
JESSE'S PHOTO JOURNAL
From here on out I am putting my convention photos on this great service called Shutterfly. They offer unlimited storage space and it's free! They also make it really easy to share photos. As it has become very obvious that I do not have time (or I procrastinate waaaaay too much) to put up galleries with detailed commentary, this is a quick and easy way to set up my galleries. Thanks Jesse for introducing me to Shutterfly (just right after I was going to try out Photobucket).
Lisa opens up her first table at Artist Alley!

Anime Central 2005 (Chicago, IL)

Our trip to Anime Central 2005, where Lisa debuted her very own art table. Things went pretty well despite one neighbor attempting to steal table space and another neighbor interfering with sales by interrupting with rude commentary. Next year we'll have to bring mace or a large mallet!

Tell anyone else about this, and I will disavow all knowledge of this cosplay!

Anime Expo 2005 (Anaheim, CA)

Our trip to Anime Expo 2005. Longer lines than ever before and a mild case of food poisoning put a bit of a damper on this one. Still quite an experience, highlighted by two really cool concerts by Maaya Sakamoto and KOTOKO.

And don't forget to check out Jesse's quickie AX 2005 gallery here.
A fairy goddess has descended on Chicago!

Anime Central 2006 (Chicago, IL)

Our trip to Anime Central 2006 ran into a few snags before the con, namely some Artists' Alley miscommunications and other problems. This was also a year where there were few Japanese guests. We did get to explore more of the Rosemont area and found Mitsuwa to be a pretty neat place. Reminds me a little of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles.

Finally getting my hands on a Macross DVD box set and having it signed by the director Ishiguro! What can be better?

Anime Expo 2006 (Anaheim, CA)

Even with CLAMP there to make a scarce (and very brief) appearance, this AX ended up with more than a few disappointments and simply just didn't seem to be as exciting as past ones. However, no food poisoning this time around, so already a step up from last year!

Wondering if my lazy pal Jesse took photos too? He did, and you can find them here.
Artist Alley at AWA

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2006 (Atlanta, GA)

Our good friend Darius helped Lisa get a table at Artist Alley at AWA 2006. We had a great time meeting patrons of anime and the arts and we had a great neighbor (Unlike at ACen). It was great seeing our good friend Brian and he and I got a rare photo together in uniform. Unfortunately, Darius was incredibly busy helping to run AWA but our trip could not have been possible without him. Thank you so much Darius! Not too many photos in this gallery, sorry, most of our time was spent running the table. The only snag was our trip home....never ever fly Delta.

Unless you're an alien or ESPer, she's not interested.

Animazement 2007 (Durham, NC)

Our first trip to Animazement in North Carolina. You wouldn't think this would be a hot-bed of anime fandom but the folks in the Carolinas know how to run a convention. They had an awesome guest line-up and they actually handled the amount of people very well! The whole con was very fan friendly and felt like one big party. Some of the larger cons feel more like a business convention and some con staffs clearly do not care about attendees or have become overwhelmed. Unfortunately, a bad cold and issues at work combined to help me forget a few items I wanted to get signed *DOH!!!* The other disappointment was a lack of good cosplayers, so not too many photos. Then again, maybe I am just spoiled by high quality cosplayers at other cons. Or maybe just too many Naruto cosplayers...
