His priests steal her body, and bring it deep into Hamunaptra, The city of the Dead. Before they can finish the ritual, the bodyguards break in and mummify his priets while they are still alive. Then they use the worst ancient egyptian curse on Imhotep. They wrap him in bandages and fill his coffin with flesh eating scarabs.
1923
Rick O'Connell and his small army, get to the city of the dead, where they are attacked by soldiers from the other army. Most of his army is killed, and he makes it out to the desert alive.
3 years later.
Rachel Weisz and her brother uncover a box with a map to Hamunaptra hidden in it. They free O'Connell from his prison and set out into the desert to find the city. Along the way they meet a group of Americans also headed for the city. 
On accident, they release the mummy and all the bad things that follow him. They are attacked by locusts, water turns to blood, firey commets come down from the sky, and boils and sores.
The mummy comes after everyone that opened the box containing the book of the dead. He gets them all, and returns to his full self. He kidnaps Rachel and brings her back to Hamunaptra to scrafice her and raise his dead girlfriend. 
The remaining good guys get the gold book, which they use to make Imhotep mortal. Then O'Connell stabs him and he melts and withers back into a mummy/ skeleton. A switch is triggered,the ceiling lowers, and Rachel, Rick, and her brother escape, with sacs filled to the top with gold and other treasures taken from Hamunaptra.
