Following suit with the wacky health hysteria originating in the state of California, U.S.A., the zero-tolerance smoking bylaw (ban) that came into effect January 1, 2000, has been a constant source of frustration for the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, and the neighbouring townships. It has been fueled by a campaign of anti-smoking zealotry & supremacy, completely ignoring the cries of business owners. Dozens of coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and bingo halls have gone bankrupt with absolutely no sympathy from city hall. Ignorance and flexing the muscles of power have been played out to a sold out show of spineless, apathetic citizens. Militant, oppressive, treacherous, hard-line, commie, vigilant, hyper anti-smoking zealot extremist terrorist guerilla hysteric radical fanatics, who are the LOUD minority, spew forth countless hissy fits and lies about the completely unproven "dangers" of second-hand smoke, while utterly failing to conclusively prove a single death has ever been caused solely due to exposure to ETS. Junk science and hyper-exaggerated statistics are bamboozling politicians into creating insane knee-jerk all-out bans on smoking in so-called "public places". The nonsense must be stopped at once before other cities jump on the 100% BANdwagon. It is a matter of choice in a democratic society where smoking has been perfectly legal for decades. Concentrating all of our health (and legal) matters on smoking is preposterous and foolish. Moderation must be exercized and the hate-crimes against smokers must end. As a non-smoker, I present to you a collection of vital links. Please get involved, get informed, and let your elected officials know you don't support insane municipal government crackdowns on a perfectly legal product that is far from "dangerous" to non-smokers. Don't be fooled by the sensationalized headlines and the misinformation that the media thrives upon! Ever go horse-back riding? When you leave the stables you always end up smelling like them. Not a very pleasant odor. Using your reasoning, since I am a guest there, I should not have to leave there smelling like horses. Perhaps they should be forced to wash the horses before every ride and make sure that the stables are sanitized. After all, I AM a GUEST there. I should have rights.
That brings up a health question. Did you you know that e-coli bacteria (found in feces) can become airborne? Another reason to sanitize the stables.
