Cut out the corporate, campaign donors

Dear Editor - The list of donations to Ontario Tory leadership campaigns now makes it public whose interest the Ontario PC government is most likely to serving.

This method of funding politicians is truly shameful and must stop. For the sake of democracy, political donations must be abolished in Ontario.

Manitoba and Quebec have recently done so. Everyone knows this deep down, and it's only a matter of time till the public gets totally disgusted and disillusioned by this loathsome system of influence buying.

And it's extremely disappointing that the Green Party of Ontario, of all the parties registering in the opinion polls, is the only party that has vowed to ban corporate and union donations once elected. The PCs, Liberals and the NDP still put themselves in conflict of interest by accepting corporate and union donations.

The worst offender in this, to my mind, even though the dollar amount isn't the highest, is Education Minster Elizabeth Witmer who accepted $5,000 from Imperial Tobacco. How can we ever convince our young people to stop or never start smoking when our education minster accepts blood money from tobacco companies. She should be ashamed!
