The GENERAL CONTEXT of such use is:
symbolic violence: (a) An academic term specifically used to distinguish nominal, normal spontaneous societal representations (see spontaneous societal representations) and spontaneist conceptions of pedagogic action (see spontaneist conceptions of pedagogic action) from the actual societal realities that are extant, i.e. a cultural arbitrariness of power relations, of a hidden and discrete nature, which exact absolute societal control (see absolute societal control), to such extent possible, of all societal functions, placing any and all societal functions and the public thereof, in a state of perpetual violence (see perpetual violence), as to the instantaneous impositions of discrimination, as to the structures and functions involved, endured thereby such public. Such symbolic violence (see symbolic violence) exists as a result of the influence of Luciferian Negativity upon all basic societal and individual functions, as opposed to the symbolic peace (pax symbolica) (see symbolic peace) that could exist with Positive, normal spontaneous societal representations and spontaneist concepts of legitimate pedagogic action.
(b) That which is exerted by societal representatives, whether knowingly or unknowingly, in their actions; i.e., the healer, the sorcerer, the priest, the prophet, the propagandist, the politician, the policeman, the psychiatrist, the psychoanalyst, the professor, the teacher, and anyone executing a power relationship based upon the monetary economic structure, in relation to anyone else.
(c) Such power relations within society as have been made legitimate in and of their existence and reality, but are unknown or hidden from those upon which such relationships are imposed.
(d) A referent indicator of the theoretical unity of all those actions which are characterized by that (defined) twofold arbitrariness of symbolic imposition.
(e) That violence of conjugative actions so exerted by those of societal position so authorized to exert such violence; i.e., the healer, the sorcerer, the priest, the prophet, the propagandist, the politician, the policeman, the psychiatrist, the psychoanalyst, the professor, the teacher, the legislator, the jurist and the judge.
(f) The real efficacy of the symbolic strengthening of power relations (rapports de force) is the recognition by the dominated of the legitimacy of the domination. Such efficacy is the result of the misrecognition (by the dominated) of the actual and real forces underlying such domination.
(g) An example of symbolic violence is copyright law, where that information which is needed to inform humanity of the strictures by which it is so bound and caged, cannot, legitimately, be made available to those in need thereof without the payment of copyright fees to original publishers, authors and agents of distribution, thereby effectively limiting and violating the rights of those in need of such information to effectively assess such information.
