Marvel Kills Quality Comics
Ok. Marvel sucks because every time they create an innovative book, a high quality book, a fresh and refreshing book, if it's sales aren't stupendous from the start they ditch it rather than try to make it popular or try harder to make it popular. Any book that makes them some profit is better than no books and no profit. My list of grievances:
- Power Pack: this was by far the most original book of its time. There was never a super hero team of children so young before. The stories were excellent, so much so that even after some 6 years since cancellation, Power Pack still has a fan base, and still has an active fanclub with a fanzine. How many other cancelled books of 6 years can make this claim? The Pack were probably the most human, most real characters in the Marvel Universe, and Marvel should have tried harder to keep it going.
- Maverick: Twelve issues is not a long enough investment in a title that was both well written and well drawn. This is a title that was just never given a real chance.
- Alpha Flight: (rumored) My latest info says this book is slated to go. But it's actually good for the first time since Byrne abandoned it.
- X-Factor: What exactly was the point in bringing back the characters that the fans demanded only to cancel the book on their arrival and create a completely new book in an alternate universe with one of the fan's least favorite members?
- New Warriors: If it hadn't lost Nicieza and Bagley this book would have been one of the long-time greats, instead it's in the trash heap.
- She Hulk: Again, Byrne's fault. This book was funny with him. And Marvel did a horrible job trying to fill his shoes when he left the title.
- The Age of Apocalypse Books: These titles were the most popular offerings of Marvel's in a LONG time. They would have made good money, and pleased the fans, if they'd have had some survivors of the nukes (maybe someone is able to stop them all) and continued the series' after Bishop returns to the right timeline. I really, really think Marvel let a good money-maker go; and I think they realize it too-- that's why they made Mutant X.
