Without Warning

TWO DAYS LATER
Drew's point of view

I was walking down the hallway and decided to check on Angel. I came up to her room and looked into the doorway. Without warning, a pillow came flying at my head.
“HEY!” I exclaimed and ducked. The pillow sailed over my head and hit the wall behind me.
“Sorry Drew,” came Angel's voice.
“Trying to kill me?” I asked jokingly coming into the room.
“No,” replied Angel sullenly. She was lying on her bed looking at the ceiling.
“So what's with the flying pillow?” I asked plopping down on the bed beside her.
“I'm just frustrated that's all,” said Angel sighing.
“Nick?” I asked.
“Yep, it's been three days since he went to California, why hasn't he called?” she asked sadly.
“I have no idea,” I said shaking my head. “I'd try to read his thoughts, but he's too far away,” I added.
“This stinks,” stated Angel.
“I know Ang, but he'll call,” I assured her.
“You can't be sure of that Drew,” she told me.
“I guess I can't be,” I agreed.

Nick's point of view

“Are we done yet?” I whined quietly.
“Almost,” replied Brian who was sitting next to me.
“This is like the millionth interview we did today,” I said.
“Yeah, I know,” mumbled AJ who was sitting on my other side. He wasn't happy about being there either. In fact, none of us were. It was almost midnight and we had been up since 5 that morning doing interviews and photo shoots. It had been like that for three days now. I didn't even have time to call Angel cause I barely had a minute to myself.
“So Nick, what is your favorite music group?” asked a woman in the front row and I felt like I was about to explode.
“Journey,” I replied through clenched teeth, while trying to smile.
“Thank you,” she said and wrote it down. Didn't everyone know what my favorite group was already? Geez!
“I swear, if someone asks me what my favorite color is, I'm going get up and walk out,” I whispered to Brian who snickered at my comment.
A grueling half an hour later we were all able to leave. By the time we arrived at the hotel it was well after 1 in the morning. I got to my room and collapsed onto the bed without bothering to get undressed. I was too tired to move. I fell asleep a minute later.

Angel's point of view

I woke up and looked at my alarm clock. It was only six in the morning; I had never woken up that early before. I knew the reason I couldn't sleep; it was Nick. I was starting to think that he never wanted to see me or hear me ever again and that hurt, a lot.
I swung my legs over the side of my bed and looked out the window, a perfect Florida morning. The sun was shining and there was a slight breeze in the air. I got up and walked over to my closet. I pulled on a pair of shorts and tank top and went downstairs. I didn't have to be in school until ten so I had plenty of time to kill.
After getting some juice to drink I decided to go for a walk. I left a note for Drew in case he woke up before I got back, grabbed my CD player, and went outside.
I was standing on the crosswalk waiting to cross the street and listening to my CD, which was turned up to almost full volume. Then without warning, everything went black.

Drew's point of view

I went to the kitchen looking for Angel but couldn't find her. I tried calling out to her but that didn't work either. I was beginning to panic, but then I saw the note on the table.

Drew,

I went for a walk, be back around 9.

Angel

I looked at my watch and saw that it was already 9:30. I tapped my foot impatiently on the floor while trying to figure out what to do. Angel had a class that started at ten. It was possible that she had come back home before I got up, got her books and already left for college. I went up to her room to see if her books were there and unfortunately, they were. I then knew that there was no way she had left for school or had come back from her walk yet. I knew that she probably just lost track of time and was running home now knowing that she was going to be late for class. I couldn't help but worry anyway.
A few minutes later I heard the phone ring. I breathed a sigh of relief thinking that it was Angel.
“Hello?” I said.
“Hi, is this Andrew Haven?” asked an unfamiliar female voice.
“Yes it is, who am I speaking to?” I inquired.
“This is Nurse Starton, I am calling about your sister Angel Haven…”

Nick's point of view

“Angel must be really pissed off at me,” I said sighing and hung up the phone once again.
“Why?” asked Brian. Him, Leighanne, and me were hanging out in his hotel room killing time before the next interview, which was supposed to start in a half an hour.
“Cause I've called like ten times already and she's not picking up her phone,” I replied.
“Maybe she's in class,” said Brian shrugging.
“Nope, her class ended two hours ago, and I've been calling since then,” I told him.
“There could be something wrong with her cell phone, did you try her home line?” asked Leighanne.
“Yep, no one is picking up there either,” I said.
“Okay, then maybe she is pissed off at you,” said Brian smirking.
“Funny Bri,” I said and dialed Angel's number yet again. The phone rang five times before her voice mail picked up. I hung up and put my phone into my pocket.
“Did you try her brother's cell phone?” asked Leighanne.
“That's a great idea, why didn't I think of that?” I said and quickly dialed Drew's number.
“Hello?” he said, his voice sounded very worn out.
“Drew? Hey, it's Nick,” I said identifying myself.
“Nick?” Drew sounded confused at first. “Oh yeah, Nick, what is it?” he asked.
“I wanted to know just how much Angel hates me at this point,” I told him.
“Why?”
“Cause she's not picking up her phone, so I figured she doesn't want to talk to me.”
“Nick, I'm not sure if you want to know why Angel is not picking up her phone.”
For some reason, my blood ran cold when I heard him say that. “What do you mean?” I asked carefully.
“I don't know how to tell you this, but Angel was hit by a car early this morning, she's still in the operating room and they don't know if she's gonna make it,” said Drew, his voice cracking.
“WHAT?!” I exclaimed and Brian and Leighanne looked at me worriedly.
“Yeah, exactly,” said Drew sighing tiredly.
“I'm going over there right now,” I said determinedly.
“Finish whatever you have to do in California first, you won't be able to see Angel for at least another twenty four hours anyway,” said Drew.
“The last interview is today, I'm flying out as soon as I can,” I replied.
“Alright,” said Drew. He then gave me the name of the hospital that Angel was in and directions on how to get there from the airport. I wrote everything down and said I'd be there that night or the following morning.
“Nick, what happened?” asked Brian as soon as I hung up the phone.
“Angel's been hit by a car, they don't know if she's going to make it,” I said and sat down because the severity of the situation finally hit me.
“Oh my God,” said Leighanne and Brian shook his head in disbelief.
“What do you think the chances are of me getting out of here right now?” I asked.
“I don't know, let me call Kev and ask him,” said Brian and quickly dialed Kevin's number. He explained what happened to him and listened while Kevin was talking. “Okay, he said that if you want, you can be on a plane in twenty minutes,” said Brian after hanging up the phone.
“Definitely!” I said jumping up from my seat.
“Okay, go get your stuff and I'll get you a ticket,” said Brian.
“I'm going,” I said and headed for the door.
“It'll be okay,” assured Leighanne softly.
“I hope you're right,” I said and then left.

THAT NIGHT
Drew's point of view

Pacing around the waiting area I didn't know what to think. I was so worried about Angel and whether or not she was going to be okay. She was out of the operating room but she was now in ICU and I was not allowed to see her. Had I been allowed to go into her room, I would've healed, or at least helped, her a long time ago. I saw Nick running down the hallway looking in all directions.
“Nick!” I called out and he spotted me right away.
“How is she?” he asked out of breath.
“I don't know, she's in the ICU, what are you doing here so soon?” I asked.
“I couldn't just sit in California doing nothing when Angel was hurt,” he replied.
“Why did you run out on her?” I asked pointedly.
“I was scared,” he said shrugging. “I mean; it's not everyday that I find out anything like this. I didn't even believe in all this powers stuff until I saw it for myself, and let me tell you, it was scary.”
“Sure, scary, but you could've stayed and talked to her about it,” I said bluntly.
“I know I know, I really should've but I didn't, I'm going to apologize and beg for her forgiveness when I see her,” said Nick. I could see that he was really worried about Angel, probably as much as I was.
“Okay, but I don't know when you'll see her, no one's allowed to see her yet,” I said solemnly.
At that point, a doctor approached us.
“Andrew Haven?” he asked looking at me.
“Yes, how's my sister?” I asked anxiously.
“Your sister has some very serious injuries. Since she was hit by the car from the front, she has a massive concussion, three broken ribs, and some internal bleeding that we were able to repair thankfully,” replied the doctor.
“When can I see her?” I asked.
“You can see her now if you'd like, but she's very heavily sedated with painkillers and will not be able to communicate with you,” said the doctor.
“Okay,” I agreed hurriedly.
“Let me show you to her room,” said the doctor and began walking.
“Can he come too?” I asked pointing at Nick.
“Who is he?” asked the doctor.
“He's, uh, her cousin,” I lied. I knew that only family were probably allowed to see Angel.
“Alright, both of you follow me,” said the doctor and then led us to Angel's room. “You can only stay for twenty minutes,” he added and then left. Nick and me walked into the room and I almost turned around. Angel looked so small and vulnerable in the hospital bed. She was hooked up to at least three machines and the only sound in the room was the sound of those machines beeping and Angel's soft breathing through the respirator.
I took a chair and put it next to her bed. I wasn't about to waste time; I had to heal her quickly, before things got worse.
“What are you doing?” asked Nick when he saw me stand next to Angel and put my hands on her forehead.
“I'm healing her,” I responded.
“Why the chair?” asked Nick.
“Because I'm going to be really drained from this, she's hurt pretty badly,” I explained. “Now be quiet,” I told him and began working. I slowly poured my healing energy into Angel, being careful not to give too much or too little. In about fifteen minutes I was done and I sank into the chair, I was completely drained.
“You okay?” asked Nick looking at me.
“Yeah, I'm fine,” I replied tiredly.
So am I, came Angel's voice in my head. I looked at her and saw that her eyes were open.
“You want this thing out of your mouth?” I asked. Angel nodded eagerly and I quickly called the nurse.
“It's a miracle,” said Nick softly while looking at Angel. “I am so sorry that I left,” he told her and Angel nodded.
Tell him that we'll talk about it later, she told me.
“Angel said that you two can talk about it later,” I told Nick. He gave me a confused look. “We can communicate telepathically,” I explained.
“Oh,” was all Nick said, I could see that he was still shocked by everything that had happened.

THE NEXT DAY
Angel's point of view

I was sitting in bed and reading a book because Drew made me take it easy that day. He wasn't letting me out of his sight either, which was sorta annoying. But like I had a choice in the matter. I heard a knock on my door.
“Come in,” I said and Nick walked into my room.
“Hi, how are you?” he asked.
“Hey, and I'm fine,” I replied and gestured for him to sit down. He sat down next to me and took a deep breath.
“Angel, I am so unbelievably sorry for running out that day, I have no idea what I was thinking. It's just that finding out about you came as a really big shock to me. Maybe I ran because I didn't want to deal with it, I don't know. But I do know that I don't want you out of my life, I want you in it, and I would like to be a part of your life if you will let me,” he said sincerely. Now how was I supposed to say no to that?
“Nick, I understand your reaction, I pretty much expected it, and I do forgive you for running. I'm just glad that you came back, no guy has ever done that,” I told him and then leaned over and hugged him. He returned the hug and then kissed me. I missed those lips of his.
