         Computers today are becoming increasingly faster and more reliable with larger storage and memory capacities. Because of this it is even more important that the computer user become more familiar with the in's and out's of computer maintenance.There are many programs on the market that claim to "clean and optimize" your computer for you. Many of these programs are well written and do a good job at keeping your system running smoothly. Others are a "nightmare" and sometimes cause more problems. One of the first things you should be doing is creating a back-up of your most important machine settings. This way, if a "nightmare" program causes a problem with your computer, you can use the back-up to restore your pc to the state it was before the problem occured.

         Another problem that can slow down and interfere with your PC's system performance is "spy ware". These are files or downloaded programs that can record your surfing habits. Some can introduce backdoor Trojans that can allow a hacker steal passwords, view, change, or even destroy you system.
