FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Here are some frequently asked questions that could be very helpful to you.

What will be the difference between the Dolphin and the PlayStation 2?

The difference between them so far is the people that make it (obviously), the CPU of the Dolphin is 100mhz faster than the PSX2, and the graphics chip is 50mhz faster. Plus, the Dolphin uses copper circuitry (which is faster and less expensive) than the PSX2's aluminum circuitry. IBM is the only company as of now that can use copper technology.

When will the Dolphin be released?

Nintendo plans for a worldwide launch in the fall of 2000. Will they make the date? I hope so, and I think they can make it.

Do you think Square will develop games for the Dolphin?

It is very possible that they might. Square, being famous for its RPGs, will most likely go for the better system. Dolphin is looking to be cheaper, and faster than the PSX2, with graphics equaled out. But. who knows, this is a tipsy turvey world. They'll most likely make games for both systems if they are almost equal in every department.

Will the Dolphin cost more/less than the PSX2, and how much?

It should cost under $200 at launch. When Nintendojo.com asked someone from Rare about it, they responded with something close to "It will be less than $200." If this is true, Nintendo could be in for a big treat. So far, the Emotion Engine of the PSX2 alone costs $130 to manufacture, plus other costs will make the PSX2 price higher and higher. Dolphin will most likely cost less than the PSX2, leaving Sony in the dust. And on top of that, 70-80% of the chips (according to psx2hq.com) are said to be defective. That's a big minus for Sony.

I heard that Panasonic will make DVD players that play Dolphin games. Is this true?

Altough it seems odd that they probably will do this, the system will use the Dolphin's circuitry, but be released later. Nintendo barely makes any money from hardware sales anyway. If someone owns a Panasonic DVD player that plays Dolphin games and buys a game for it for $50, and another person has a Dolphin, is there a difference in how much money Nintendo will make because of the hardware being used? No.

What developers (not on board) would you like to see making games for Dolphin?

Konami, Square, Enix, Quest, and just about every developer would be nice. If you wanted to ask me the top 3 developers not already on board, I would have to say Square (despite the fact that they're past few games aren't as good as SNES ones), I really like Namco games, so I'd include them, and Capcom make great games. I'd like to see Konami make games too, but they don't make the top 3.
