We feel you have a right to know beforehand.

We are hearing complaints concerning acquiring replacement parts. Some are apparently telling their existing customers "Lets see if you are on our customer list..umm....no.....and we are not taking any new customers". Finding it a bit strange, we called one and were told the same thing. Apparently jail administrators naturally thought if they had a given companies equipment, they were automatically their customer! (I wonder where they got that idea?) They apparently don't like being inconvenienced with part requests for their own parts. They want you to pay the middle men markups and living with the additional delays. How convenient!

Taxpayers are the ones who end up footing the additional unnecessary expense. And with the failure rates of middle men and detention manufacturers, a given facility might have to replace all their locks or locking devices for lack of parts. We feel it only fair that jail administrators have a right to know before the fact so informed decisions can be made. The public would be up in arms if automotive manufacturers were allowed to operate in the same manner. Having to purchase a new car for lack of a carb. Make sure you can purchase locks and locking devices from the main company that manufactured it (not the jail builder).

Along the same lines, detention architects are implying Sheriffs, Police Chiefs and Jail Administrators know little if anything about their own operations. Almost without fail they are left out of the design stages or if they are asked, their advice is apparently ignored. It is not hard to understand why so many of the new facilities are experiencing problems. Imagine having to live with someone else mistakes. I am inclined to believe the former are far better versed than the latter in their own operational needs. When was the last time you saw an architect inside an operating facility? Having a facility that an experienced maintenance person can not maintain the electronics due to unneeded complexities is not a pleasant situation . . . for the maintenance personnel, the facility or the taxpayer!

Just remember you do have a choice. You are a BRINK'S customer regardless which detention equipment you may have and they have excellent drop in products for most all detention equipment with little if any modification required. They have started from scratch to manufacture my equipment faster than the others could pull it from the shelf and ship it. How's that for service!!!
