Episode 36, "Blast From The Past

Previously on Friends and Foes,

  • Candice’s secret was revealed in court, that Josie was her step sister. The envelope contained documents from a psychologist saying that Josie had schizophrenia.
  • Brandi and Devin reunited after over a year of separation, and Kortni told them they were on their way to rescue Jeff.
  • Candice was infuriated with Alex and left the trial, and watched it on the news.
  • Amanda was found not guilty and Alex & Taylor were released from all charges. The gang went to Arcadia Springs to celebrate.

    COURTNEY'S CAR - MORNING

Kortni looks into the rear view mirror of her car to make sure that Brandi is behaving in the back. She glances over at Devin sitting next to her.

He can only gaze out of the car’s window, distraught, troubled, holding the pictures in his hands. The pictures of Jeff, bloody and beaten. It looks as if he is about to cry, but not yet.

The Mercedes Benz flies past a sign, ‘Welcome to Pine Valley’ The eerie silence becomes too much for Kortni, so she speaks up.

"Alright, guys, here’s the plan. We are all pretty sure that Robert Sullivan is behind the kidnapping, and the serial murders of two years ago. But there’s no way we can just walk into his office and say ‘Hey big boy, give us Jeff or we’ll hurt you bad!’. This man is powerful, and he’s certainly not stupid if he can get away with a murder and a kidnapping."

"Yeah, so we have to get the information out of him somehow, without him knowing we’re investigating something." Brandi says.

"And we have to find out where he’s keeping Jeff, in a subtle, inconspicuous way," Devin says, rolling his eyes, "I’m sure that’ll be the easiest task of our agenda."

"Don’t be so pessimistic," Kortni mumbles, forming an plan in her mind, "I’ve got an idea...a good one."

    "What?"

ALEX AND TAYLOR’S DORM - MIDDAY

Amanda drops her duffle bag at the foot of the couch and slumps down in the loveseat adjacent to it, exhausted.

Alex follows behind her with a smaller duffle bag and Amanda’s purse. Taylor is in the kitchen, making a sandwich, when he sees the two walk in. "Hey you guys."

"Hey Taylor." Amanda sighs. "Listen, thanks again for letting me stay with you guys for a couple weeks before I find my own place."

"No problem." Alex says as he sits next to her. Taylor joins them and sits down at the couch.

"So, Amanda, now that you’re in L.A.," Taylor asks, "Are you going to pursue acting? That is why you wanted to come in the first place, right?"

"Yeah, I am. Well, at least I’m going to try. How about you, Alex? I know it’s your DREAM to become an actor."

Alex looks upset. He stands up and turns away from Amanda. "I...I don’t know."

"I’m sorry," Amanda says, concerned. Obviously something about that subject distressed him. She will have to investigate that...later. "I didn’t mean to upset you."

    "I’m fine."

After a brief moment of silence, Amanda turns to Taylor. "Where’s Lyndsay?"

    GRAVEYARD - AFTERNOON

Darkness is starting to sweep the earth, and Lyndsay stands alone before a priest, wearing all black. The clouds in the sky look doomful, and Josie’s tombstone looks sad, despite being new.

"I’m sorry, miss, I’ve got somewhere else to be." The priest explains, frustrated.

"Listen, can you give them 10 more minutes?"

The priest glances at his watch. "We’ve been here for almost an hour and a half."

"I know. It’s just...she has family, d@mmit! She has friends! How can they be so stupid? So disrespectful?"

Rain starts to fall, as do Lyndsay’s tears. The priest looks sympathetically in Lyndsays direction and puts his hand on her shoulder. Without another word, the priest begins to speak.

"We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Josephine Lische...friend, daughter, and partner. As we walk through the valley of the shadow of death..."

As the priest continues preaching, Lyndsay kneels down next to the tombstone, a single rose in her hand, her hair damp from the rain. She cries as she runs her hand across the tombstone and manages to whimper, "I love you."

PINE VALLEY, COLORADO, PARKING LOT - AFTERNOON

The Mercedes Benz is parked, and Brandi is looking impatiently at Kortni, and Devin has his own share of angst as well. Brandi "So are you going to tell us what ‘amazing’ idea is that you claim will work?"

    Kortni smiles. "Sure thing."

She opens the door of the driver seat and hops out. Quickly, she runs to the trunk and opens it, takes out a metal briefcase, closes the trunk and hurries back to the drivers seat.

"Here we go." She says. She opens the briefcase and inside there is what looks like a movie projector.

"What is that?" Devin says, curious.

"Boys and girls," Kortni says, "We are going to tap Mr. Sullivan’s office!"

Brandi rolls her eyes. "Like he won’t notice that big ole’ thing."

"This is just the receiver. THIS," Kortni pulls out a small black box the size of a peanut, "Is what we are going to plant in his office. We’ll receive everything on this big recorder."

Devin smiles, but Brandi shakes her head. "How exactly are we going to plant that?"

"Well he’s seen the both of you, so I’m going to have to pose undercover as someone to get in and plant it real fast and leave."

"Well," Devin says, anxious to use the equipment, "why don’t you teach us how to use this thing and then we'll get to work?!"

ALEX AND TAYLOR’S DORM - NIGHT

Amanda sits in front of the TV, tired from the temporary move into Alex and Taylor’s. Taylor and Lyndsay sit at the kitchen table, looking at newspapers, while Alex is in his bedroom.

"So," Taylor says, talking to Lyndsay, "I’m sorry about the funeral."

"It’s ok," Lyndsay shrugs, "It’s not your fault."

Taylor puts a comforting smile on his face and gives Lyndsay a kiss. "So, how about it?"

"How about what?" Lyndsay asks, puzzled.

"Which apartment do you want to move in to?" Taylor says, holding the newspapers up. "You DO still want to move in together, right?"

Lyndsay smiles, "Oh yeah, I forgot. Sure, any one of these would be great."

Meanwhile, in the living room, Alex walks in and takes a seat next to Amanda. They look at each other and smile, then both turn their attention back to the TV. Suddenly, there is a knock at the door.

"I’ll get it." Amanda says. She gets up and opens the door.

Candice sees Amanda and immediately rolls her eyes, angry. "What the Hell are YOU doing here."

Although Amanda doesn’t know why Candice is being hostile, her instincts tell her to get catty. "I live here. What about you?"

Candice smirks and roughly breezes past Amanda in to the living room. Taylor and Lyndsay watch on, hoping for the best. Candice walks right up to Alex and gets in his face.

"What’s going on between us, Alex?" She yells, "Are we together or not? I don’t get you at all!"

"You tell me," Alex responds angrily, "You’re the one who said you needed time! You are the one who distances yourself!"

"And you’re the one who humiliated me by making me testify in court! You are the one who invites the whore who caused all of this to happen in the first place to live with you instead of me!"

Amanda is taken aback, and her mouth is dropped to the floor. "How dare you call me a whore?"

"OH shut up!" Candice says. "You started all of this, you dirty little twirp! Mess with me some more and I will tear you open like a rotten piece of fruit!"

Amanda poisons the room with her sarcasm. "I’m scared. Really, you’ve pulled out the big guns now!" Amanda smirks.

"Kind of like the gun you killed Josie with, hmm?"

She hesitates for a moment, and then Amanda slaps Candice across the face, tears spilling from her eyes. She whimpers and runs to her room.

Taylor and Lyndsay are shocked, and Alex is brought to silence. "That was out of line."

"I..." Candice is suddenly very silent.

"We definitely need to talk. Let’s go to my room." Alex says, upset. Candice nods and they head to his room. Lyndsay and Taylor look at eachother.

"Oh my God." Lyndsay says. "Candice really whipped out her claws. That was pretty messed up what she said."

Taylor looks confused. "Something’s not right."

There is another knock at the door. Taylor rolls his eyes. "Could this day get ANY more hectic?"

He strolls over to the front door and opens it. Standing there, looking Taylor straight in the eyes, is...

Amber. And she’s holding a one year old baby in her arms.

    "Hello...daddy."
