Golf Tales to TruthsSeptember 1990, Canadian Kelly Murray was able to hit the ball so well that the distance was 626m 20cm on the runway of the Canadian Airport Fairmont Hot Springs. He needed 160 attempts. Mark Pennings, Belgium (Guinness Records) The National Chinese Golf Association claims that golf is a Chinese game, played in Chui Wan in the second and third century before Jesus Christ's birth. Before the year 400 after Jesus Christ's birth, the romans exported a game called "paganica", to the British islands. The game was like a golf game. In the year 1350, there was a glass-painting (Gloucester's Cathedral, Great Britain) with a player looking like a golf player on it. Then in 1360 the games using a ball and a club were forbidden in Belgium and the Netherlands. In March 1457 the Scottish Parliament voted a law to prohibit the "golf play". Mark Pennings, Belgium (Guinness Records) Many of us average golfers dread the thought of getting into the bunkers on any given hole. But listen to this. In The Netherlands, there is a 9 hole tournament that is played exclusively in the bunkers. A big bunker, for that matter. All nine holes are layed out on the beach and in the dunes and if that wind kicks up, watch out. The tournament was originally started to raise money to continue operating a local radio station. It has blossomed into a wonderful annual event attracting golf lovers to the ultimate in sand play. Enter early and have the time of your life.
