Local Scout Works With Sculptor To Honor Federal Heroes

EagleGolden, Colo -- In 1995, Jeremy Nuanes, 17, a Golden High School student and member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 130 has chosen a unique way to fulfill a commitment to community service. Working with noted sculptor, Joe Cipri, the two have collaborated to erect a dynamic monument on the grounds of the Denver Federal Center. Jeremy is seeking public help and support.

"The purpose of the monument," noted Nuanes, "is to honor American men and women who, in the service of their country, have made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives." Continuing, Nuanes in addressing the Lakewood City Council stated, "This monument is not only to recognize the service and life giving sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces, but all men and women who, in their employment with the Federal Government, died while performing their duties; such as Bureau of Land Management or Forest Service firefighters, diplomates like the three who recently died in Bosnia while attempting to broker peace, and the members of numerous Federal Agencies who lost their lives in the Oklahoma bombing."

The monument's design encompasses a globe setting upon an obelisk. Resting on the globe will be both an American Bald Eagle and the American flag. The "Eagle" and the "Flag" are draped over the globe as if to symbolize the protection and security America and its citizens have brought to the world's peace and stability. The monument will stand over eight feet tall and the out-stretched wings of the "Eagle" will have a span of greater than five feet.

When asked why he had chosen such a project, Jeremy Nuanes was excited to reply, "Service to my country in the form of a Boy Scouts of America "Eagle Scout" project was my motivation for my project and a need to memorialize the volunteer spirit and humanitarian effort that we as a nation give the rest of the world on a day to day basis."

Jeremy Nuanes was coordinating the fund raising effort to bring this Memorial Project to life to serve his community, our state, and recognize the service provided by the dedicated men and women of America's government.

Nuanes has spent hundreds of hours promoting the project, speaking to interested citizen groups to both promote the project and fund its completion with private donations.
