is the OFFICIAL Peroxide Dyed biography, it will be updated as often as
possible to keep up with events involving the band: 1996 Jonathan Papert(Jon), Michael Hyman(Mike), Jeremy Yeates(Jez) and Elliot Marks(Ell) join Ilford County High School. Jon earns the nickname "Kurt Cobain" due to his new found love for the guitar and current obsession with Nirvana. Mike earns the reputation of spotlight stealer for his inspiring performances in music lessons while everyone else is getting to grips with "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Jez shows no interest in the guitar and laughs at Jon for his rather poor use of the truth("I *really* am Kurt Cobain, yeah Courtney's at home right now, you want to speak to her??? Oh i dunno.......shes kinda busy ummm...writing shit songs") Ell.......well he definately WASN'T playing drums. 1996 to 2000 Jon plays in several rather unsuccesful bands. Most barely learn to play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (which is of course their aim). Michael shows an interest in literally thrashing a guitar. Ell continues not to drum. Jez is shown the light in the form of guitar by Jon. He shows little/no potential in his several million variations of Purple Haze. 2000 December 2000 - Mike and Jon play in Ilford County High School (ICHS) Variety Night 2000. They play a great cover of In These Arms by Bon Jovi, besides Jon abriging the SIMPLE guitar solo("No Michael, I'm not as good as Richie Sambora!"). Band : Mike (Vocals), Jon (Lead Guitar) Nick, (Bass), Paul (Rhythm Guitar), Sam (Drums). 2001 Beginning 2000 to Summer(ish) 2001 - Are we a band? Aren't we? Who knows? Band barely exist while several practices take place at possibly the worst rehearsal studio ever (belonging to ICHS of course). Jez joins on guitar. He seems to have improved a TINY bit. He can now play about 1/2 of Van Halen's repertoire(not quite Jon's 3/4!). Band is Mike (Vocals), Jez, Jon and Paul (swapping guitars and bass around) Summer 2001 - Without seemingly any drummers in the world, Jon volunteers to play drums. Band rehearse at dingy studio in Hackney. "Oh my God, a REAL Marshall stack!!!" (They bow down at the sight of real equipment). October 2001 - Ell brought in on drums (although he couldn't actually play, yet.....) Jon feeling dejected takes back the spot of guitarist. The new 4 piece line-up is born: Mike (Bass, vocals), Jon and Jez (Guitars), El (Drums) 21th October 2001 - First CD (Mentality, 2nd Sight, Night Rider) recorded at Jon's house. Started as guide for Ell to learn songs, somehow found its way into half of the worlds homes (Thanx Mike and AudioGalaxy!!). General excitement ensued as the realisation set in, the first cd!!! Band dance around Jon's living room for at least 5 minutes straight. 30th November 2001 - After seeminly successful audition, band rejected by ICHS for Variety Night 2001. Apparantly they were just too damn good (and loud!) for that stupid show. 19th December 2001 - Peroxidedyed.uni.cc is launched!! 2002 15th Jan 2002 - Peroxidedyed.co.uk is launched. (Ok, may not seem like a big deal but its a proper web address!!) 23th Feb 2002 - 1st gig, Bates Hall w/ Stoic. Altogether a very successful first gig, more details in the Gigs section 17th Mar 2002 - Win song contest at Sinclair House, entering with 'Rectify My Soul'. Superb prize of one day at Scarlet Recordings!! 24th Mar 2002 - 10 hours spent at Scarlet recordings putting down 2 track demo ('Mentality' and 'Rectify My Soul') 9th July 2002 - Mike, Ell and Jon do first radio interview on Radio XL, a lot of interest was created as shown by a mass of texts and phone calls in the 30min slot. They played the tracks from the demo as well as two band selected songs, Nightrain (Guns N' Roses) and Knock Me Down (Red Hot Chili Peppers). |
