Barenaked Ladies is a group of five (fully clothed) men from
Canada who have been making kick ass music for the past decade. Though
they've been working together for years, it wasn't until recently that they've
begun to enjoy mainstream success, at least here in America. Fortunately
for us, Stunt was released in 1998. The first hit from that album,
"One Week" burned it's way up the pop charts and firmly settled itself
in the minds of radio listeners... and also on our television screens in ads for
(car company). It was followed by the hit songs, "It's All Been
Done", "Who Needs Sleep", and "Call and Answer".
The follow up album, Maroon, contained the songs "Too Little
Too Late" and "Falling For the First Time".
BNL (as they are
known to their fans) also put on one helluva live show!! If you haven't
been to a BNL concert, you haven't lived!! Their upbeat, fun-loving
attitudes, really shine through in their live performances. They include
the audience in their merrymaking. Because really that's what it is.
With their unique blend of high tempo tunes and distinctive lyrics, they rock
the house. And then they bring the house down with their hilarious medleys
of popular Top 40 songs, and their own imaginative spur-of-the-moment ditties -
about anything from a Sloppy Joe to Ed's Uncle Elwyn. Ultimately
the reason BNL is so popular with their fan base, is because of one special attribute
- at the beginning, middle, and end of the night Barenaked Ladies is really just
this... five friends getting together to jam... and we all have a front
row seat.
