Autumn Spaces

Written October 2003. To be published in Scott Community College literary magazine,
The Squash Blossom, 2004

This day belongs in autumn spaces,
Damp grey leaves dance circles in the street
The whistle of a passing train echoes
Like a foghorn in the morning mist
A spit of rain, a drop of dew, a swirling ghost
Of waning fog
Greet woolen coats with collars turned
The river rushes on
The barges wait as waters rise
To move along their journey south
With fall’s fresh harvest stored within their bows
The voices of the rivermen upon their decks
Rebound softly on the buoyant air
Accompanied by calls of ducks and geese who’ve yet to
Join the barges in their foray into climes less harsh
Away from winter winds and ice

Misty Morning Trees

(Visit my Photography Pages, photo titled "Misty Trees," for the inspiration for this poem.)

Written May 2004. To be published in Scott Community College literary magazine,
The Squash Blossom, 2004.

The morning is both empty and filled
with silence
Stuffed full of white mist chortling
in the sleeves of trees
Whispering secrets and sighing
with water in its breath
Dew suspended by the chill
Where it can fly like poisonous arrows
Into my bones, flaying
The skin on my cheeks and nose and ears
Before settling subtly into me
Into my spirit and I smell winter’s intention.

Struggle Toward The Stars

copyright 1996, Catt Foy

(I wrote this song for my oldest daughter to encourage her to seek her own Higher Awareness)

Struggle toward the stars, my child
Struggle toward the sky
And reach beyond a consciousness
That's more than you or I.

Your spirit's strong, your power deep
Know this and it's yours to keep
Struggle through the pain and strife
Seek the Light and find your Life

For deep within's a spark that glows
You're just a piece of God, you know
You
know it, somewhere deep inside
Free it! There's no need to hide

Chorus:
Now don't you know, the only sin's when you forget the Light within?
So struggle toward the stars, my child
Struggle toward the sky
And reach beyond the struggle here
It's more than you or I.

Together, mankind's company
Is just a grand design, you see?
A rich and complex tapestry
The Master weaves for all to see.

Become a Master of your self
Don't keep your gifts upon a shelf
Cross the boundary, set it free
It's so much more than you or me.

Chorus:
Now don't you know, the only sin's when we forget the Light within?
Struggle toward the stars, my child
Struggle toward the sky
And reach beyond these earthly bonds
Beyond just you or I.

Guilt and shame will wound your soul
Make the Light your highest goal
Find the Higher Self within
Become your goal and there's no sin.

We're all a part of the design
Be still, my child, and you will find
The pathway in your Mind and Heart
That takes us far beyond the parts.

Chorus:
Then you will know the only sin is hiding from the Light within
Struggle toward the stars, my child
Struggle toward the sky
Struggle toward the Light in YOU
And teach your soul to fly.
