Antechinus Art in Schools
@ Westernport Secondary College |
"YEAR eight students at Westernport Secondary College have been relief carving three metre high totem poles as part of the 'Making Places' project. The students have created designs with the help of Damian Curtain, a community artist. Damian is an accomplished chainsaw artist and woodworker. "The sculptured totems are being carved from beautiful aged Murray pine. It's interesting that the poles were salvaged from Western Port Bay and have been cured over 50 years on the seabed. 'The totems represent and reflect the past, present and future of Hastings," said Making Places project worker Christine Nagorcka. The final destination of the totem poles is the garden in front of the shire offices in Hastings. "For me It's been really exciting to watch the local community embrace its identity with pride and contribute to its future wellbeing." They will be part of a community art trail that leads from High St to the foreshore." The Independent 21/11/2000 |
