John and Caroline Smedley Pyatt

John's father left Pennsylvania c1836 for Palmyra, Marion County, Missouri, where he received a land patent in 1838 and remained many years. When the family moved to Morgan County, Illinois, John went with them. He was married in Morgan County, Illinois, September 23, 1846, to Caroline Smedley.

The known children of John and Caroline are as follows:

  I find John and Caroline on the 1850 census of Morgan County, Illinois, as follows:

  • Pyatt, J age 28 born PA / wm / tobacconist / $600
  • Pyatt, C age 24 born KY / wf

  They were enumberated #56/57 pg 174 Jacksonville. At #57/58 were John's parents. On pg 176D at #95/94 was John's brother, Benjamin Pyatt with his family and their brother, Oliver Pyatt, lived with their sister, Emily Pyatt Cassell and her husband, Peter Cassell, family on pg 170C.

  On the 1860 census, in the city of Jacksonville, Morgon County, Illinois, we find:

  • Pyatt, John age 37 born PA / W M / Tobacconist / $10000/$1000
  • Pyatt, Caroline age 34 born KY / W F
  • Pyatt, Edward age 7 born IL / W M
  • Murphy, Ellen age 16 born IRE / W F / Servant

  Their family was enumerated #304/304 8th Jun 1860 pg 367 (top left pg 45; ancestry image 45/563). Their neighbors were #298 George ?Pfraniger, #299 William L Butler, #300 William G Johnson, #301 Joseph ?Flory, #302 E Y Miller, #303 unoccupied, #305 unoccupied, #306 C K Sawyer/Lawyer, #307 John Burns, #308 Thomas C Rout, #309 I N Martin. At #623 pg 412 were John's parents with his brother, Oliver. By this time, John's brother, Benjamin, had moved to Sangamon County, Illinois. Their sister, Emily Pyatt Cassell was in Indian Creek, Emerald Point P O, in Morgan County.

  By the 1870 census, of Jacksonville Ward 2, Morgan County, Illinois, they appeared as follows:

  This family was enumerated #20/20 and #20/21 (starting with John Pyatt) pg 482 (#4 printed left top) on 8 Jun 1870 (ancestry image 150/330). Their neighbors were #13 Charles Ross, #14 George Seymour, #15 Robert Ligach, #16 Cyrus Eplin, #17 Annie ?cel, #18 Benjamin Pyatt (John's brother), #21 Peter ?Titler, and #22 John Cassell. John's widowed mother was living with her son, Oliver, in Jacksonville Ward 3.
