Ashley County, AR

A Little Ashley County History

• Formed November 30, 1848.

• The 2nd county from the Mississippi River, on the southern border of Arkansas.

• The 53rd county formed in Arkansas.

• Named for Hon. Chester Ashley, who was a Senator when he died.

• Hamburg Arkansas is the County Seat, Hamburg was once known as the largest city of Ashley County, this is no longer true, the largest city is Crossett.

Beyond Bartholomew The Portland Area History
